County
Manager Awarded Employment Contract
Recently hired county manager, Gregory
Wood, has been awarded an employment contract by a majority vote of the
Board of Commissioners. The contract has a 2 year
employment agreement, along with a 90 day severance pay package if the
manager is released before 3/31/2013 for anything other than 'cause.'

As I stated in the meeting, a contract for any
employee is against county policy. It was stated
in the meeting that the commissioners can vote for one anyway. I
disagreed.

I
asked several times how an employment contract protected
the county. There was never an answer to this
question. As commissioner, my job is to protect the county and I
have not been able to understand how giving a contract to an "at will
employee" protects or helps the county. With an $85,000 a year
salary, a 90 day severance is $21,250. That amount is more than
some county employees make by working all year long.
